This article and source code teaches you how to add your program to
IE Menu so that when somebody right clicks a link or selects a text
in a web page he can choose to launch your program.
There are 3 general steps:
You have to make a DLL :) If you choose to have a form in your DLL this form must be shown as modal. This is very important.
You need to write a web page containing the script that calls
your dll. This script is generally written in JavaScript.
You have two choices: whether including this web page in your program and
distributing it as a single file
or adding
your page to your dll as a resource and calling it by res:// protocol
You may have your own way. This is the way I have done it:
1 - Make your DLL without any fuss
2 - Use Resource Hacker
to modify your DLL
Open your file using File menu
From Action menu choose Add a new resource ...
As you can see in the screenshot open your html file, for Resource Type choose 23, for Resource Name choose your html filename and set your language to English
Update your DLL by saving these changes
Registry path for IE menu items is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt
Each key in this section represents a menu item. The default value is the path to the html page and the context value is the place of the item in the menu.
If you have have chosen to add your html page as a resource to your
DLL the your path here will be res://%DLL PATH%/MyPage.htm else you need
to set the path to your html file
To install the demo project go to release folder and run install.bat then close all your open browsers, this page will be opened automatically after installation.
Right click this link to see the results
I hope you have found this useful.
Nice Coding....
