1. What is txt2pad?
-------------------
Txt2pad is a _simple_ freeware utility that converts a Windows directory structure to a TreePad file.

Say you have a directory of code examples named "Visual Basic Snippets". In this directory you have many subdirectories (which may also have subdirectories of their own).

Here's an example directory layout:

- Visual Basic Snippets
	|- API functions
	|- Graphics
 		|- BltBit examples
	|- Mathematical Stuff
	|- Strings
		|- parsing functions
 		|- replace functions

In each of the directories resides an assortment of files. Some of the files are text files while others are images or other binary data. Using txt2pad you can create a TreePad file that mimics the structure of the directories, with the nodes of the TreePad file representing the directories as well as the files within the directories.

2. How do I use txt2pad?
------------------------
Click on the "Browse" button to select the initial directory. In the example case this would be "C:\some dir\Visual Basic Snippets". Now click the "Make" button to create the TreePad file. The resulting TreePad file will always be saved in the same directory as the initial directory. In the example the TreePad file would be saved as "C:\some dir\Visual Basic Snippets\Visual Basic Snippets.hjt".

3. How do I tell txt2pad which files to include?
------------------------------------------------
Menu: File --> Edit Extensions

The ext.txt file is located in the same directory as the txt2pad application. This file consists of all the extensions that txt2pad should include in the TreePad file. Each extension you want included should be on a separate line.

Example #1 (typical extension file)
-----------------------------------
txt
js
htm
html

If you want to include all files you can use the special extensions - :all.

You can place the ":all" extension on any line of the file. If it is present all other extensions will be ignored.

Example #2 (all files will be included)
---------------------------------------
txt
js
:all
htm
html

Beware though, if you use the ":all" extensions, ALL files will be included - images, executables, etc. TreePad will not display images or run programs. Rather, TreePad will display the "text" of these files, similar to a hex editor.

If any of these files contain a null value (ASCII 0) it will cause the TreePad file to display incorrectly. It might appear that some of the files/directories do not appear in the TreePad file. For this reason it is best to only use extensions that represent text based files.

If you want to include files with no extension, then use a blank line somewhere in the file (even at the end of the file.)
This will include files with names such as README instead of README.doc

Example #3 ("no extension" files will be included)
-----------------------------------------------
txt

htm
html
