Welcome to the ColorSyntax.ocx Color coding Active X control
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last Updated: 3-30-00 Version 3

This ActiveX control includes a document called CreateActiveXControl.doc which is a
complete tutorial on how to create a custom ActiveX control for Visual Basic 5.0 and up
using the Rich Text Box Control.

This control is a demonstration and is meant to go along with the document as a tutorial

Below you will find the information you need to run this application.

System Requirements to run and compile the control:

Pentium 100 w/ 16 meg of ram (estimate)
Windows 95/98/Nt/2000
at least Visual Basic 5.0 (included in Visual Studio 97) to open and compile the project

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't compile the control yourself you will need to register it in the following way:

Copy the ColorSyntax.ocx file to:

C:\windows\system
C:\winnt\system32

directory and then open up a command prompt. Once in the command prompt type:

If windows 98 or 95 type this:
	cd c:\windows\system <enter>
	regsvr32 ColorSyntax.ocx <enter>

If Windows NT or 2000 type this:
	cd c:\winnt\system32 <enter>
	regsvr32 ColorSyntax.ocx <enter>

If everything goes well it will come back and say everything worked. You should now be able to
open the example project and play with the program

About the Program

This is a simple active x control that shows how to perform syntax highlighting in an
active x control. This code is simple and I will be writing an article to go along with
this code and submitting it to http://www.freevbcode.com in the next few weeks. That article
should answer all of the questions you will have on it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This code is GPL'd so please read the documentation file that comes with this control and app.

That's about it. Any questions or comments please contact me, Eric Banker, at:
ebanker@gmu.edu

Flames will be ignored :)
enjoy

I would like to say thanks to a few people for helping out with this program.

Joel Dueck's free vb program called BlueIce gave me many starting points for a lot of this code.
David Hoyt developed an Active X control that does color coding with RTF codes. I used that code a lot with this program.
Jim Pragit has helped to speed up the parser and fix many bad coding problems on my part :)
