DYESS INDUSTRIES (www.DyessIndustries.com) PRESENTS--

WebVote 1.2 (Access Application Fix)
===========

WebVote is an ASP based voting component which can be used as a stand alone, or inserted
into HTML documents.

Packaged Files
==============
voting_booth.asp	the form displaying all questions
answer.asp the form displaying the potential answers to the question
			chosen in voting_booth.asp
results.asp the form posting vote and displaying statistical results
messages.mdb the database / initialization program for WebVote
index.asp		a redirection ASP loading voting_booth.asp
readme.txt		this file

Requirements
============
Microsoft Access 97 (next version will not need this)
IIS or PWS 4.0 or any ASP compliant server

Installation
============

Although this looks much better with surrounding HTML, this can be used as a stand alone.

Step 1: Initialization
======================
Open Messages.mdb (this will be done via Browser in the next version)
The question form will automatically open.
The rest of the form is self explanitory - if you need help, put the mouse cursor over
  any of the controls and a help context will appear explaining the control and it's use.
Close Messages.mdb

Step 2 Option A: ASP Stand Alone Installation
=============================================
Copy MESSAGES.ASP, INDEX.ASP, VOTING_BOOTH.ASP, ANSWER.ASP, and RESULTS.ASP into your
  web root directory.
You are all done. Make sure your server looks for INDEX.ASP. If it looks for another file,
  such as HOME.ASP or DEFAULT.ASP, rename INDEX.ASP accordingly.

Step 2 Option B: NetObjects ASP Integrated Installation
=======================================================
This component can be integrated into popular HTML editors such as NetObjects Fusion.
I suggest integrating this into an existing HTML document so you can add your personal
  look. Since I use NetObjects Fusion to design my site look, I will demonstrate
  using v4.0.

1) You will not need INDEX.ASP, this is simply a re-director to VOTING_BOOTH.ASP
2) Create your home page that has a link to your voting page
3) Create your voting page, and add an External HTML document (located on the Advanced
     Toolbar) Place VOTING_BOOTH.ASP as the External HTML file.
4) *Make the first line (before the <HTML> tag = "<% Response.Buffer=True %>" (do not include quotes)
5) Make the External HTML box the width of your Layout. (stretch the box to the edges)
6)  Save the voting page
7) Create your answer page (this page lists the question, and the possible responses)
8) Add an External HTML document again, making sure it stretches to the edges). Place
     ANSWER.ASP as the External HTML file.
9) *Make the first line (before the <HTML> tag = "<% Response.Buffer=True %>"
     (do not include quotes)
10) Create your results page (this confirms the vote, then presents statistical results).
     Place RESULTS.ASP as the External HTML file.
11)*Make the first line (before the <HTML> tag = "<% Response.Buffer=True %>"
     (do not include quotes)
12) Edit VOTING_BOOTH.ASP to set global variables (Go to Step 3: Setting Global Variables)

* NOTE: NetObjects Fusion does not allow you to modify the line before the <HTML> tag.
	 You can do it manually (after it is published, edit the VOTING_BOOTH.ASP,
	  ANSWER.ASP, and RESULTS.ASP files placing <% Response.Buffer=True%> as the
	  first line. OR
	 CoolMaps offers a component named LineOne, which allows you to graphically
	  enter the first line. It works well, and is what I use. (www.coolmaps.com)

** NOTE: Make sure you DON'T publish Messages.mdb every time you update your site.
		This will OVERWRITE any data stored on the server (i.e. Vote Questions,
		Vote Options, Stored Answers) You should only put it on the site once.

Step 2 Option C: Standard HTML Integrated Installation
======================================================
1) You will not need INDEX.ASP, this is simply a re-director to VITING_BOOTH.ASP
2) Create your home page.
3) Create a voting page and append VOTING_BOOTH.ASP to the end of it. Make the first
     line (before the <HTML> tag = "<% Response.Buffer=True %>" (do not include quotes)
4) Create an answer page and append ANSWER.ASP to the end of it. Make the first line
     (before the <HTML> tag = "<% Response.Buffer=True %>" (do not include quotes)
5) Create a results page and append RESULTS.ASP to the end of it. Make the first line
     (before the <HTML> tag = "<% Response.Buffer=True %>" (do not include quotes)
6) Edit VOTING_BOOTH.ASP to set global variables (Go to Step 3: Setting Global Variables)

Step 3: Setting Global Variables
================================
1) Open VOTING_BOOTH.ASP into your HTML editor.
2) Search for the following code near the top of the document

  '***** Global Location Variables *****'
  mBaseDir = "/"
  mAnswerDir = "answer.asp"
  mResultsDir = "results.asp"
  mVoteBoothDir = "voting_booth.asp"

3) They are set to the stand alone installation. The variables are used in the following
	manner:

  mBaseDir: This is where Messages.mdb is located. You must use a relative path, such
		as '/WebHome/' or '/Home/'.
  mVoteBoothDir:This is where VOTING_BOOTH.ASP is located. You need to include the
		directory and filename, such as 'Vote/voting_booth.asp' or
		'VoteSeciton/voting_booth.asp'. You can name VOTING_BOOTH.ASP anything
		you like as long as the .ASP name matches this variable.
  mResultsDir:	This is where RESULTS.ASP is located. You need to include the directory
		and filename, such as 'Vote/Results/results.asp' or 'Results/results.asp'
  mAnswerDir:	This is where ANSWER.ASP is located. You need to include the directory
		and filename, such as 'Vote/Answer/answer.asp' or 'Answer/answer.asp'.

EXAMPLE of SETTING GLOBAL VARIABLES:

Site Structure:

	Home (Index.Asp) - accessed by www.myhomepage.com
	  -Aboutus (AboutUs.Asp)
	  -Feedback (Feedback.Asp)
	  -VotingBooth (Voting_Booth.Asp)
	     -Answer (Answer.Asp)
	     -Results (Results.Asp)
	  -Links (Links.Asp)

Here, the mBaseDir would be "/" designating that the Messages.mdb is located where your
  home page (Index.Asp, Home.Asp, Default.Asp, etc.) resides.
The mVoteBoothDir would be 'VotingBooth/voting_booth.asp' because the voting_booth.asp file
  is in the VotingBooth directory, which is in your Home directory.
the mAnswerDir would be 'VotingBooth/Answer/answer.asp' because the answer.asp file is in
  in the Answer directory, which is in the VotingBooth directory, which is in your
  Home directory.
the mResultsDir would be 'VotingBooth/Results/results.asp' because the results.asp file is
  in the Results directory, which is in the VotingBooth directory, which is in your
  Home directory.
