README for the Generic PHP Framework
------------------------------------

This is a temporary README - I'll get round to writing something more
substantial later.

Welcome!
--------

I can't believe you've downloaded this. It doesn't work yet,
there's lots of code still to be written, and as for the
	documentation ... <grin>

What Is GPFR?
-------------

The Generic PHP Framework, aka GPFR, is a library of reusable
objects written in PHP4. The idea is to make GPFR a great
framework for writing fully-featured web applications.

NOTE: This code will NOT work with any version of PHP3. Anyone
who asks any questions about using this library with PHP3 will
	find their email ignored!

Background
----------

	What can I say?

Basically, I'm writing and maintaining a commercial web-site.
The code that generates the website pages is written in PHP.

I've looked at other PHP libraries, but the classes were either
crude hacks (grin), or just not structured to scale up to writing
	large, robust applications.

So I decided to write my own.

At the moment, I'm writing the library as I'm re-writing my web-site
code. The contents of the library reflects my own needs right now.
I'm hoping that, with more contributors (and more time ;-) the
GPFR will grow into something better.

Source Code
-----------

The master copy of the source code is held on SourceForge.

		http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpfr/

	Contributions welcome!

Web Site
--------

I haven't written a web page for this project yet - if anyone
wants the job, give me a shout.

In the mean time, please use the SourceForge project page

		http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpfr/

Everything we have can be found from there.

Mailing Lists
-------------

If you go to the web site, you can find out about the mailing lists
	I've setup for this project.

		gpfr-announce@lists.sourceforge.net

		gpfr-developers@lists.sourceforge.net

		gpfr-support@lists.sourceforge.net

If you can't figure out what each mailing list is for, please don't
	bother joining them.

Support
-------

There is no support for the Generic PHP Library. You get what
	you pay for ;-)

That said, you can use the gpfr-support@lists.sourceforge.net
	mailing list to ask questions.

Reporting Bugs
--------------

I'm notorious for my terrible memory. If you don't log a bug
using the "Bug Tracker" available on the web site, then I'll
forget about your problem, and probably never fix it for you.

By all means post bugs to the gpfr-support mailing list, but
MAKE SURE you've also logged it in the Bug Tracker.

Best regards,
Stu (stuart@gnqs.org)
