This is just a few notes I think would be nice to have somewhere...

* How do I include a list of headlines in my homepage
  You can do this without modifying you main configuration file. First you
  have to set up a few variables :
   - $hn_tpl		Sets the template
   - $hn_no_fasttpl	Don't load fasttemplate
   - $hn_no_head_foot	Don't insert your head and foot file
  Then just include your configuration file in the file where you
  want the headlines. E.g. :
  <?php
    $hn_tpl = "mini";
    $hn_no_head_foot = true;
    $hn_no_fasttpl = true;
    include ("news/index.php3");
  ?>

* How do I only display news for the last x days?
  Just append ?days=x to the URL. E.g:
  The normal URL           : http://server.org/news.php3
  URL with news for 7 days : http://server.org/news.php3?days=7

* How do I turn off magic quotes?
  magic_quotes_runtime(false);
  (Thanks to Ben Brewer <ben@vail.net> for the info)

* Should i use the cache feature of HotNews? (new in 0.6.0)
  The cache feature is very new so it can contain bugs but on the other
  hand it increases the speed by the main pages a lot. Note that only the
  main page (showed to guests) is cached, and not the administrative
  interface.

  On small news pages this will probably increase the speed by 25 times!
  (That's what I have seen in my tests) On larger a lot more because it
  does not have to look thru the database every time.

* How do I only show one news entry
  Add ?item=<item nr> to the URL. E.g.:
  http://localhost/hotnews/?item=9

* How does the the page-id access protection work?
  This is only useful if you have several news pages and want to restrict
  access to certain users so they can only update certain pages.
  Each page has a page-id (this must be different for each page if you
  are using the cache feature). You can then restrict which page a user
  has access to by putting a comma seperated list of page-id's in the
  access field in the admin database. Now the person only has access to
  the admin interface of the specified pages.
  If you want a person to have access to all pages just put a * in the
  access field.
