# Version 0.2

WELCOME TO MP3STORE

1. What the tool is for ...

With that tool you can store the mp3-id3 tag/info in a mysql database.
All the information about artist, title, album ... is stored in the DB,
the length, the quality, the date on which you wrote the
information into the database as well as the name of the CD and
the directory the mp3 file resides in.

2. Features

	A.
With that tool, you can organize your mp3s and you can run a quick
search in order to retrieve information about your mp3 files...

	B.
The package contains a web interface, so you can query the database
from a browser and get the answer in HTML, too.
The html documents are very simple, so you can easily edit and
	enhance them.
The documents are stored in web/ and can be moved wherever you want,
after you read (and understood!) the INSTALL documentation :-)

	C.
The DB, where you want to store the MP3 data does not need to be
located on the localhost, it can be placed on any host in the
www, but must be accessible. So your friends may store their
data into your DB, in case they don't run their own mysql server.

3. What do you need?

	A.
Access to an MYSQL Server anywhere in the web.

	B.
On the MYSQL Server, there must be your MP3-DB including a table
with the following shape (have ist the default name):

 mysql> describe have;
 +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+------------+----------------+
 | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
 +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+------------+----------------+
 | filename | varchar(100) | | PRI | | |
 | directory | varchar(100) | | PRI | | |
 | rate | smallint(5) unsigned | YES | | NULL | |
 | length | time | YES | | NULL | |
 | title | varchar(255) | YES | | NULL | |
 | artist | varchar(255) | YES | | NULL | |
 | album | varchar(255) | YES | | NULL | |
 | year | smallint(5) unsigned | YES | | NULL | |
 | comment | varchar(255) | YES | | NULL | |
 | cd | varchar(20) | | PRI | | |
 | gotdate | date | | | 0000-00-00 | |

 | tracknum | smallint(3) unsigned | YES | | NULL | |
 | copyright | int(1) unsigned | YES | | NULL | |
 | version | int(1) unsigned | YES | | NULL | |
 | frequency | float(3,1) | YES | | NULL | |

 +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+------------+----------------+

	C.
Optional: A webserver, it can also be located anywhere
The server has to understand php3 scripts and php3 must be compiled
	with mysql support.

	D.
Perl has to be installed because the script, that reads the tag and
the info is written in Perl.
This script uses the MP3-MP3Info module, you can get it from
	http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/CPAN/data/MPEG-MP3Info/MP3Info.html
or from any CPAN mirror like
	http://www.cpan.org/authors/id/CNANDOR/MPEG-MP3Info-0.71.tar.gz
Make sure that the mysql modules are installed, too. This can be
	done by
	perl -MCPAN -e 'install Bundle::Mysql'
	when connected to the internet.

4. How to use ?

When you have read the INSTALL guide and changed the
hostname, user, password ... and your mysql server is running,
then you can store your MP3s in the following way:
		storemp3 <NAME> <DIR1> <DIR2> ....
where <NAME> should be a suitable name, perhaps the CD label
or something like On_HardDisk. Mind the special characters, you may
have to quote some or embrace <NAME> in quotation marks.

5. Summary

	In short words:
This program reads the mp3id-tags from your mp3s and stores them in
	a mysql database.
You can submit queries with every mysql client, for example the
ordinary mysql client or a web interface.

The following variables have to be known:
The hostname of the computer the mysql daemon runs on,
The username to get access to the mp3 database,
		The password for the user,
The name of the database itself (Note: The name of the
DB is your choice, but the main (and only ;-) table in it
can be named `have' (it's the default))
In the INSTALL Doc, there is a short description on how to change
	these values.
